Hysterectomy & Abdominal Scar Massage
If you’ve undergone surgery, had an abdominal hysterectomy or are dealing with scarring and looking a solution to restore your skin and aid in the healing process, a scar recovery massage might be beneficial. Based in my home near Chichester, I provide specialised massage sessions tailored to assist with your scar recovery. The journey of recovering from an injury or operation that leaves behind scarring can be challenging both emotionally and physically.
Scar massage is a gentle method designed to restore movement and function to the tissues surrounding scars, while also improving the quality, appearance, and texture of the scar itself.
Many of us bear a scar of some sort, but have you considered how that scar could affect the rest of your body?
We frequently view a scar as the end of a journey. When a consultant assesses your scar after surgery and says, “It’s healing well, you don’t need to return,” it often feels like validation that everything healed well, giving you the freedom to continue with your life.
Our bodies comprise a complex network of tissues and structures designed for movement, allowing them to slide and glide against one another. Scar tissue plays a vital role in healing; however, it does not replicate the original tissue it replaces nor does it form in the same way. As a result, the layers of tissue can become stuck together, disrupting their ability to move freely.
These restrictions, adhesions, and tension lines caused by a scar can place excessive strain elsewhere on the body. This may lead to issues around the scar itself, as well as other injuries and complications streaming from the body's recovery response.
Once the incision has healed (no scabs 6-8 weeks), hysterectomy massage can help with:
Easing tightness and itching around the scar
• Improving scar mobility and flexibility
• Enhancing blood flow
• Correcting posture
• Reducing swelling
• Restoring sensation
• Resolving redness
• Reducing lumpiness
• Alleviating numbness
• Helping reduce overhang or tummy pouch
• Improves tummy appearanceSoftening the scar tissue
However... while a scar is a natural consequence of your body's healing process from an open wound, the narrative doesn't necessarily end there.
Also, scar tissue contracts over time, resulting in further pulling, puckering and strain on the surrounding tissues and structures.
There is also the potential impact on the tissues, structures and organs underneath the skin. Adhesion and scarring can be far-reaching. On the surface, you may have one small scar, but there can be a web of scar tissue deeper under the skin too.
